HISTORY:

EPILEPSY SOUTH AFRICA is a private welfare organisation which was established in 1964. It was then called South African National Epilepsy League. In 1967 the National Body was established. Prior to the establishment of the National Body, limited services to people living with epilepsy was provided by the Mental Health Societies, as a result the numerous misconceptions and myths regarding epilepsy where reinforced.

In 1976 the KwaZulu Natal Midlands branch was established. The founding members of this branch were parents of children living with epilepsy and those with the realization that people living with epilepsy were in the need of social intrevention and support. Since its inception EPILEPSY SOUTH AFRIC KZN MIDLANDS has grown in size and the number of people served has increased. EPILEPSY SOUTH AFRICA KZN MIDLANDS began services only in the city of Pietermaritzburg and has since started services in sorrounding rural areas and the underserviced areas further inland.

VISION:

To provide integrated services that are equitable, accessible, sustainable and people centred with and for people with epilepsy and other disabilities and all affected by epilepsy, to promote social justice.

MISSION:

EPILEPSY SOUTH AFRICA is a dynamic organisation providing developmental services nationally to promote equal opportunities for people with epilepsy and other disabilities.

GOVERNANCE:

EPILEPSY SOUTH AFRICA KZN MIDLANDS supports the principle of good governance and is an organisation that promotes transparency, the interest of the people we serve is taken care of by the management committee, which ensures that the Organisation is run under good financial management according to the requirements of good business principles and the ethic of social work.

EPLILEPSY SOUTH AFRICA KZN MIDLANDS is a small branch run by dedicated Management Board and Staff
